Exercise for over 40? start today!

Meet Ernestine Shepherd, now think about your 84 years grandmother, yes Ernestine is 84 years old.
As we age we start losing fast-twitch muscle power, meaning you can't carry your groceries, you can't walk upstairs, etc... because you don't have the power to generate it
The best thing for an older person, yes over 40 is a good start, is to train with heavy weights to target the fast-twitch muscle fibres with programs designed to target the muscle that's being lost or full-body programs if you're starting early, again over 40
As you're getting older you have to be more conscious of getting injured and you want to think about working with a trainer who is holding your hand making sure every repetition is done properly with the proper form and once the form breaks this the set ends
Weightlifting is not just for athletes but for health reasons to prevent metabolic disorders, heart disease and inflammatory disorders amongst others
The American College of Sports Medicine amongst others no longer suggests for their recommendations only 30 minutes of cardio but also resistance training.
Are you still walking on a treadmill for 30 min? 🙄
